We in the community of College Park, are grieving the death of a local legend.
John Brown, co-owner and co-founder of R.J. Bentley’s, passed away on Saturday. He was 77 years old.
In 1978, John helped found R.J. Bentley’s Filling Station as a welcoming “roadhouse” for College Park residents and returning alumni. He turned it into a local landmark and a legendary college hangout.
“John Brown was a creative force for economic development in the City of College Park. Of course everyone identified him with RJ Bentley’s. But his contributions to the City and State are recognized by staple projects he led as Chairman of the Maryland Stadium Authority by building Ravens Stadium and Comcast Xfinity Center. We considered him a Partner and leader for all things College Park. To his Wife Keene, we miss John already.” – Michael Williams, Director of Economic Development, Office of City Manager Administration.
