Maryland Residents Impacted by the Federal Government Shutdown

Governor Wes Moore has announced a comprehensive set of actions to support Maryland residents during the federal government shutdown, focusing on the state’s large population of federal employees, contractors, and those relying on federal programs. The outlined measures cover eviction, foreclosure, and utility shutoff protections for unpaid federal employees. In addition, there are updates to a centralized resource hub, and financial relief options through credit unions, banks, and a new state-backed loan program. The state is also ensuring the continued operation of essential services such as Medicaid, SNAP, housing assistance, and childcare programs. While some protections do not extend to federal contractors, Governor Moore is urging landlords, lenders, and utility providers to voluntarily offer support to all affected Marylanders.
